Use it with care as it removes one of your lives/shields when used.

Several goes later and dispite not managing to make it past the 2nd my score stands at 607,400 so 1,000,000 seems achievable.

……

So so so so close. 966,000 and managed to reach part way through level 3. I’ve realised that if you have not taken a hit when you collect the Capcom icon (a red circle with white razor-cross inside) you’re awarded 100,000. Nice. No chance of not taking a hit on level 2 to collect the same bonus however. That score would put me at 7th but I’m determined to crack 1,000,000.

……

Made it to half way through the 3rd level and manage to surpass the 1,000,000 score mark by achieving 1,117,000 which places me at 6th. Not too shabby and with a bit more effort I should make it up to 4th by passing 1,373,000. 1st place however seems a long way off. So a few more goes and my score will be submitted with only my patience dictating how much longer I aim for at least 4th position.

……

Made it to the end of level 3 this time and after a hard fought battle in which I feel I was almost victorious, the end of level boss took me out. I achieved a score of 1,434,300 though which now places me at 4th. I’m more than tempted to just go that one more step and get past level 3 but I’ve got more than enough games to get through in this stupid self imposed challenge of mine.

I have really enjoyed this and I will definitely be returning to it at a later date. It’s a fantastic reminder of old school shumps and just how fucking hard they were. A glorious relentless bulletfest. Now it’s onto 1942…and then 1943: The Battle Of Midway…and then 1944: The Loop Master…and then 1945k III…and then 19XX: The War Against Destiny.

Bloody hell. I like this series and all that but I suspect it could get tiresome after all that lot.

Download the inp file

Developed by Capcom (always a stamp of quality in my eyes) and released in 1990 this is the three-quel (?) to the vertical scrolling classic 1942. (The sequel being 1943: Battle Of Midway). It’s still a standard vertical shump and as in 1942 the player collects power ups and shoots the hell out of … Continue reading “MAME WR No. 4 – 1941: Counter Attack”

[6,9,12
