{"id":273,"date":"2009-06-07T21:19:23","date_gmt":"2009-06-07T21:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sull.co.uk\/?p=273"},"modified":"2017-07-06T21:23:02","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T21:23:02","slug":"mame-wr-no-1-88-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sull.co.uk\/?p=273","title":{"rendered":"MAME WR No. 1 &#8211; &#8217;88 Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So I should really put my money where my mouth is and crack on with the MAME World Record attempts I mentioned in my <a href=\"http:\/\/sull.co.uk\/?p=255\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier post<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>First up is <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Konami_%2788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8217;88 Games<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.konami.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Konami<\/a>.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"88 Games\" src=\"http:\/\/www.system16.com\/screens\/88games.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"304\" height=\"224\" \/>It&#8217;s Konami&#8217;s third game in their button smashing series following <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Track_%26_Field_(arcade_game)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Track and Field<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hyper_Sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hyper Sports<\/a> before it.\u00a0 A quick check of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twingalaxies.com\/index.aspx?c=22&amp;g=88+games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twin Galaxies<\/a> show that they have a record for each of the individual events.\u00a0 Now this might prove to be a problem as you can only move onto the next event once you&#8217;ve qualified for the preceding event.\u00a0\u00a0 The events are as follows with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twingalaxies.com\/index.aspx?c=22&amp;g=88+games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twin Galaxies<\/a> record against each;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100m Dash\u00a0: 09.470 secs<\/li>\n<li>Long Jump\u00a0: 10.31 meters<\/li>\n<li>400m Relay (Qualifying Heat): 33.060 secs<\/li>\n<li>Skeet Shooting\u00a0: 20,000<\/li>\n<li>110m Hurdles\u00a0: 11.440 secs<\/li>\n<li>Archery\u00a0: 5,150<\/li>\n<li>Javelin\u00a0: 108.48 meters<\/li>\n<li>High Jump\u00a0: 2.32 meters<\/li>\n<li>400m Relay &#8211; The Final Race\u00a0: 33.060 secs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So lets see how I get on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong>Attempt 1<\/strong><br \/>\n100m Dash : 12.22<br \/>\nLong Jump: 7.13<br \/>\n400m Qualifying :38.64<br \/>\nSkeet Shooting : 1000pts<\/p>\n<p>Skeet Shooting does me.\u00a0 It&#8217;s far harder than Hyper Sports.\u00a0 You have to move the gun too?!?\u00a0 Well, after that shitfest this could turn out to be quite difficult.\u00a0 I never was good at these button bashing games anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attempt 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All scores worse than attempt 1 and RSI has set in already.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attempt 3 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An improvement in all areas&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>100m Dash : 11.96 (would place me 5th in the WR standings)<br \/>\nLong Jump: 7.63 (3rd in WR standings)<br \/>\n400m Qualifying :37.24 (5th a.k.a last&#8230;)<br \/>\nSkeet Shooting : 3400pts (6th a.k.a last&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Those WRs look a long way off&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attempt 9<\/strong> &#8211; 400m Qualifying :36.44 (Still last).\u00a0 This is becoming tiresome now.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve no idea how to do the High Jump either.\u00a0 Pfffffft.\u00a0 My self imposed cut off point for submitting my scores is 50 attempts and then that&#8217;s it.\u00a0 They&#8217;re only short anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Combined best results after 50 attempts are as follows;<\/p>\n<p>100m Dash : 11.49 (would place me 5th in the WR standings)<br \/>\nLong Jump: 9.60 (Joint 2nd)<br \/>\n400m Qualifying :35.40(5th a.k.a last&#8230;)<br \/>\nSkeet Shooting : 12000pts (Joint 4th)<br \/>\n110m Hurdles 13.30 (2rd)<br \/>\nArchery : 5150pts (Joint 1st)<br \/>\nJavelin:\u00a0 82.00meters (3rd)<\/p>\n<p>Well that&#8217;s that cleared that up.
